Silver Creek Alpine Glow

The image below was taken yesterday of Silver Creek just before the sun dipped below the horizon. The lower reaches have been frozen over from the recent cold which has been exacerbated by an inversion making it far colder in Picabo than in Ketchum or even the top of Baldy (Sun Valley Ski Area).

Recent cold temps coupled with a wicked inversion have made it downright chilly on Silver Creek near Picabo, Idaho. Silver Creek, pictured below, was completely frozen over near Picabo.

A Christmas BBQ

We had a great snowfall on Christmas Eve and friends and family made a fire pit outside and grilled our dinner. Jackets still reek of smoke and we may have eaten a little later than planned but it was well worth the effort...

Moody Winter Day

It was a moody winter day today with storm totals in the 10" - 12" range in the Ketchum area. I shot down to Silver Creek this am to throw streamers for a bit. High temps above 32 degrees made for a bit of rain near Picabo. Silver Creek is flowing low and clear and cloudy days are generally the best streamer days...

Foam Is Home

Here's an image taken of a rainbow pushing through a foam eddy on the Big Wood River a few days ago. Days with high temps above 32 degrees can be gems on the Big Wood in the winter. It's even possible to find rising fish...

Santa Barbara Beach Portraits

Here are some portraits of my family from a recent trip to Santa Barbara. I am really looking forward to some upcoming trips including to Cuba and New Zealand this winter. Taking portraits of all kinds of people along the way will be a priority on those trips... There is a lot to be said to stopping and talking to someone and taking the time to hear a snippet of their story and hopefully getting an image of them that speaks to their personality and place.

Mountain Standard Photo Shoot

Earlier this fall I was hired to shoot for a great new clothing company located in Boulder, Colorado called Mountain Standard. The shoot was a sunrise to campfire and well beyond dark day. We had everything from scattered clouds in the morning to sun to a passing thunderstorm in the evening. Below are some images from the day. The fishermen are all local Sun Valley fly fishing guides (they guide for Picabo Angler), John Huber, Nick Anderson and Taite Pearson.

Silver Creek Digital Silver Print

I just framed my first digital silver print. I'm very happy with the results and will try and use this process with most and eventually all of my black and white printing. I have been teetering on the edge (when considering shooting to make a print. I will likely always have a digital camera with me) of ditching the digital cameras and replacing them with film as I have not been really satisfied with the black and white giclee prints I am getting with my digital files. The digital silver printing method however has reversed my course to shoot film.

For those not familiar with the digital silver process here are a few of the specs. Again, this process is done with digital files:

  • Digital file exposed on light sensitive photo paper
  • Processed in liquid chemistry

The photo paper in my case is, "true silver gelatin baryta based paper." It's also:

  • White paper base with warmer image tones
  • Processed in liquid chemistry to archival standards
  • Ideal for exhibitions, portfolios and fine art prints
  • Superior silver content for richer tones and shadow detail

The printer I am using is Digital Silver Imaging in Belmont, MA.

A Bend In The River

The print is 16" X 24" and signed, titled and dated en verso. The dimensions of the frame are approx. 32" X 24 1/4". There is also approx 2 3/4" white matting.

Framed: $900 plus shipping & tax

Print (unframed): $650 plus shipping and tax
