Silver Creek

Brown Trout.  Silver Creek, Idaho

The above brown was caught today by eating a 10" Rainbow that had eaten a #24 Trico Spinner on 6.5X Tippet.  Two large browns fought over the smaller rainbow and eventually both of the big browns were hooked simulataneously.  That's right.  Two browns the size of the brown above were on at the same time and eventually one got off and this one was landed.  The bigger fish got off and took the rainbow but this fish somehow became hooked in the melee.  The second best part of these brown trout images are the blue skies!

New York City Marathon

My wife, Diana, will be running the New York City marathon this fall to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training in honor of her mom, Abby, who is a leukemia survivor and for all of the other families who have faced a similar diagnosis. This will be Diana's third fundraising effort for Team in Training--to date she has helped raise over $12,000 to fund the critical cancer research and support services that the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society makes possible. It's a cause that's important to our family, and I hope you'll take a minute to check out Diana's fundraising page (http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/nyc12/dbprice#home).

And one more reason to check out her page and donate: She is only $700 from her goal of $6,500.  Help her make it happen!

I recently photographed a family fishing the "evening hatch" on Silver Creek.  The images in this post are from that evening.

It's still trico time on Silver Creek and despite some pretty heavy crowds it's possible to get away a little.  The pmd spinner fall has been strong as well and the afternoon callibaetis has been getting better and better and will pick up momentum as we get into September.  LOTS of hoppers as well.

Another take...

Ok, for the past 2 weeks I have essentially been away from my computer.  Pros and cons with that.  I have been on the river 7 days a week though.  It is smokey and hot here.  Water levels have all dropped and it's hopper and trico time.  The bugs have been starting on Silver Crek around 7:45 AM and today there was a good pmd spinner fall in the Nature Conservancy section of Silver Creek that lasted until about 11:15 AM...  Almost no baetis where I was.  Just tricos, pmd's, damsel flies and hoppers.
